An underappreciated modern invention that makes life convenient is a mirror. In fact it becomes such an indispensible part of our daily life; we use it all the time without noticing its existence. Whenever need arises, we subconsciously look at a certain direction, and instantly see what we want to see: always something else, never the mirror itself. Imagine all the mirrors suddenly disappear from your home, from your car, and from this world, you can almost hear the exclaim spontaneously everywhere: WHERE DID MY MIRROR GO!?!

We use mirrors daily to admire ourselves at home and to avoid dangers on the road. A good mirror should be spotless and without fog, not in any way reminding of its own importance. Mirror functions according to the light it receives: it is perfect to reveal light, and becomes useless in pitch dark.

Christians are chosen to become mirrors of this world (Matt 5:16). With the light we receive from the Father, we bring reality to people around us, and give them warnings about snares and dangers on the road. In the darkness of heart, we reflect the light. We are not the light, but to bear witness to the light (John 1:8).

Never shelf yourself somewhere collecting dust; we are here for a purpose (1 Tim 1:9). Never try cleansing yourself with your own hands; we come to the Master daily so He can polish us and make us shiny (1 Peter 1:19). Never cover yourself when people are looking at you; reflect (Matt 5:14-16).
